History

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, also known as SHPE, is a national organization formed in 1974 by a group of engineers in Los Angeles. The inital goal of these engineers was to form a national organization of engineers to serve as role models for the Hispanic community. With the formation of this organization came five pillars which each chapter of SHPE must work to uphold.

Values

Education – We value formal education and professional development. We are dedicated to continuous improvement and renewal. We learn from successes, setbacks, and each other.

Professional Development – Provide our members with the skills and experience to excel in every step of their professional development from their resume to their performance in the workplace after graduation

Community Outreach Work with our members to excite and inspire the Hispanic community about STEM-related fields

Chapter Development – Continually work to improve the Binghamton SHPE chapter and ensure that the voice of every one of our members is heard

Leadership Development Give our members the confidence and experience that they need to become excellent leaders so that they may continue to promote the values of SHPE to others at their school and in their community
