About us

We are here to empower Hispanics in STEM.

History

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, also known as SHPE, is a national organization formed in 1974 by a group of engineers in Los Angeles. The initial goal of these engineers was to form a national organization of engineers to serve as role models for the Hispanic community.

Established in 2002, SHPE Binghamton sets out to build on this goal. With a focus on unity, service, education, and resilience, we strive to create a strong and supportive network for aspiring Hispanic engineers at Binghamton University.

SHPE Binghamton has provided me with many opportunities to grow in my professional level. Through professional workshops and cultural events, SHPE gave me the confidence to represent being a hispanic in the STEM field where it continues to grow. I was welcomed with open arms and I want to give back to our new and returning members.
SHPE has helped me grow professionally while also allowing me to join a community with people who share the same culture and values as me. I am grateful to be part of an organization that works hard to welcome everyone and give them a sense of belonging while helping them succeed and providing a support system. From supporting people in attending our National Convention to hosting professional, social, and technical events, SHPE is always there to support its members.
The Binghamton University SHPE chapter is much more than just a student run organization offering professional and technical developmental growth. I can proudly and personally say that I have grown to be a leader as much as I have been a team player during my time here, especially in this group that I’m honored to call my Familia.
Vision
SHPE’s vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.
Mission
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.
